What is the William’s Canyon Project
The William’s Canyon Project is an official project of the National Speleological Society (NSS). The private landowners of Cave of the Winds and William’s Canyon, together with the cooperation of several local grottos, or branches of the NSS, have partnered to oversee the management of the caves of William’s Canyon, Colorado. Currently there are over 100 caves being managed by the project. The project manages, controls access to, surveys, maps, and collects scientific data for the caves and karst features of the canyon. People who wish to become involved and learn more should start at the official website of the project,www.WCP.coloradocaves.org
If you want to visit the commercially developed Cave of the Winds, you can find out more at www.CaveoftheWinds.com.The best way to become involved with the project, is to visit the project’s website, find the grotto closest to you, and start from there. If you are a member of the National Speleological Society (NSS) there are many projects, like the William’s Canyon Project, so join today if you are not a member:The National NSS Page: www.Caves.org
I am a member of the Southern Colorado Mountain Grotto, one of the founding grottos of the William’s Canyon Project. If you are in the Colorado Springs area, you are welcome to come introduce yourself at one our monthly meetings. We meet the 1st wednesday of every month (except December) at 7 p.m. Currently the meetings are being held upstairs at Jack Quinn’s on Tejon, in downtown Colorado Springs. I became involved with the project this way.
